Faculty positions: Ocean science and technology
Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, a national university of Japan, is preparing the establishment of a new faculty dedicated to ocean sciences, seafloor resources, and ocean energy, scheduled to open in April 2017. The university invites applications for faculty members in the following areas. This invitation presupposes the approval of the faculty establishment by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and associated budgetary provision from the Ministry; and the decision by the Council for University Establishment and School Corporation that the candidate is qualified to be a faculty member.
Areas of research and education: The university seeks candidates with academic career in one of the areas 1), 2), 3), and 4). The university also seeks candidates with practical (non-academic) experiences in one of the areas 1), 2) and 3).
Exploration, evaluation and drilling of seafloor resources
Planning, designing, positioning and evaluation of utilization systems for ocean energy
Planning, installation and operation of marine platforms related to 1) or 2).
Oceanic crustal deformation, sedimentary structure, paleoceanographic environmental change, biogeochemical cycles and other fields based on a marine geological or geophysical approach.
Positions available: A few professors and/or associate professors (full-time, indefinite term of office until the age of 65, annual salary system) either with academic experiences or with non-academic experiences.
Expected dates of employment: The dates of employment, which are specified by the university, are from March 1, 2015 to April 1, 2017. (The university specifies the dates after consulting with prospective employees individually and discussing the present situation regarding their duties and other matters.)
