Cefas is seeking a Data and GIS Officer to work as part of a busy marine science project team. Working under the supervision of the Data / GIS Work Package Leader, you will manage the project data centre according to the existing policy and will support the delivery of map products to internal and external customers (Cadcorp GIS).

 

The successful applicant will have 2 main areas of responsibility:

 

Data Management

 

The main focus of the role will be to liaise with the project's work package data stewards to ensure that the data that is acquired within the work packages is saved and stored according to the existing data management policy and that appropriate metadata is created and saved to the Cefas Master Data Register;

To liaise with other staff within the work package and also the Cefas Data Manager to support the data stewards in the meta data task;

To manage changes in the data centre structure and setup according to requirements of the evolving programme.

GIS Support

 

To create map products using Cadcorp SIS8 Map Modeller software according to the standards as set within the work package (training will be provided).

Academic qualification required for direct entry to Cefas Pay Band 4 is a degree / HNC or equivalent, preferably science-based. 

Some experience of working with data in electronic data management systems is required.

Some experience of GIS would be desirable; training in use of Cadcorp software will be provided.
