Main Purpose and Responsibilities:


You will be responsible for setting up and managing the Canopius Catastrophe Data Processing team in Worcester. The team will be responsible liaising with underwriting to process, cleanse and audit catastrophe modelling exposure data, and support the continued growth aspirations of the wider Catastrophe Management team based in London.


For this role we are looking for someone with a proven track record in leading a team, a keen eye for data quality, and a desire to utilise technology to drive automation. This role is progressive, with the potential to significantly broaden in scope once the team is successfully established.


Your initial responsibilities will include:


The selection and recruitment of a team to support your work

Close collaboration with your manager in London to design and implement efficient workflows

Defining Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to support the Catastrophe Management Team

Defining processes and new tools required for workflows

Following the establishment of the team your responsibilities will include:


Managing the workload of your team to meet SLAs

Preparation of exposure data using Excel and proprietary modelling tools

Taking ownership of process development projects that contribute to the robust use of catastrophe models across the Canopius Group

Consistently develop standards and best practise within the team to deliver efficiency improvements

Effective communication with underwriting assistants regarding data queries and with the Catastrophe management team

What you can expect from us:


Guidance with the set up and management of your team, but the autonomy to develop it around your requirements

Integration into the wider Catastrophe Management team with the opportunity to directly contribute to the underwriting process at Canopius

A commitment of development resource to build smart workflows, intelligent data cleansing tools and automation scripts

Normal working hours will be 35 per week, 7 hours Monday to Friday. Core hours will be 10am – 6pm with one hour for lunch. However there will be the opportunity for some flexibility around these core hours, subject to business needs and Manager’s agreement.

Skills and Experience:


Previous experience preparing exposure data for catastrophe model software

Previous experience managing and motivating a team with the ability to plan and prioritise workloads

An understanding of database systems and the ability to manipulate large data sets in Excel (VBA experience highly desirable)

Proven track record of data audit

Keen attention to detail while working to tight deadlines

Good knowledge of global geography and understanding of natural peril hazards

Understanding of insurance and reinsurance contracts; and the Lloyd’s market

Strong numeracy and logical skills
