Your core purpose in this role is to initiate, negotiate and secure new projects in the field of sustainable underground storage. Our vision is to generate a continuous revenue stream from this activity that contributes materially to the bottom-line of the Salt business. A substantial portfolio of projects is a key factor due to the opportunistic nature of the underground storage markets.

As such, the role requires technical knowledge of salt cavern storage in order to value our assets, knowledge of Contracting and Project economics, and an understanding of critical processes and risk management. It also requires the ability to operate across internal as well as external environments on behalf of the company, with a recognized seniority in marketing, sales, commercial management and business development.

The position is located in Hengelo, the Netherlands, and you will be part of a multinational and multicultural organization that is committed to your personal and professional growth.

Within this context you create and develop powerful value propositions in order to attract customers. As this is a relatively new market for AkzoNobel you will devote substantial time and effort into generating intimate knowledge of the business needs of our customers and the markets in which they operate.

Once projects are initiated, you formalize them in terms of contractual agreements, then initiate the project execution phase. At this point, ownership of the project is transferred to a project manager within Mining Development & Compliance.

The role involves significant challenges in terms of complexity as all projects involve a multitude of commercial models, stakeholders as well as technological, mining and geological challenges. As such, it is essential that you understand customer business needs within markets that are outside of AkzoNobel's primary focus.

You will also face challenges in terms of stakeholder criticism and public resistance to subsurface projects in countries where we have our assets (NL, GE, DK, UK). Thus it is essential that you keep all stakeholders informed and aligned as required.
